Today was an awesome day: Lyndie had a healthy baby boy, Andy Axel Irons, waves are back and conditions were nice and pristine! We are in the 3rd and final stop of the Crown Jewel - The Billabong Pipe Masters, being referred as "In loving memory of Andy Irons" Billabong Masters.

For the Pipe Masters, we are taking filming to the next level with some hi-tech remote control helicopter. We mounted a Canon 7d camera onto the RC heli. Check out the video...

The WINDOWSEAT crew is running LIVE HD broadcast on the internet at www.triplecrownofsurfing.com as well as LIVE HD on TV here on the islands via Oceanic Time Warner Cable channels 250 and 1250.

We spent an amazing afternoon at the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. We would like to thank Lyndsay LaGree and Betsy Tran for allowing us to share our stories with the kids at their hospital.

The kids at the hospital were treated to a few videos, various swag from WINDOWSEAT, Body Glove, Volcom, and VANS. These kids were quite competitive when playing games such as Foos Ball and Connect Four, amongst others. Watch the video here: CHLA

About a year ago, I was talking to my friend Tim in the band Ima Robot. He asked me to do a music video for their new song. I had just filmed Neckface throw a Molotov cocktail against a wall at night and loved how it looked. I transferred that idea to skaters skating burning spots from Molotov cocktails, but it was hard to pull off at real spots. But, unfortunately, Ima Robot just went independent, so they couldn’t fund it. Six months later, Rick Howard’s at my house, and we’re talking about Lakai’s yearly budget, and he mentioned that Lakai might do S&C. I showed him my idea for the music video and he was like, “Let’s do it.” I’ve said it before, but there was so much bullshit with making Fully Flared, so it was cool to have everyone psyched and not stressing about their part. It felt how the intro to FF should have felt. So it had a redeeming quality to it. In the end, Lakai used Ima Robot’s song for free, and they got a music video out of it. Funny how things come full circle.

San Clemente, CA (July 14, 2010) – The Surfrider Foundation’s Not The Answer Campaign has partnered with waterman and activist Laird Hamilton for a new public service announcement (PSA) created by WINDOWSEATpictures urging President Obama and congress to reinstate the moratorium on offshore drilling. Hamilton is featured in both 30- and 60-second PSAs running online and on-air.

The goal of the PSAs is to increase awareness about the situation in the Gulf of Mexico and encourage people to take action by writing the President and other elected officials asking them to reinstate the moratorium on offshore oil drilling.

Hamilton highlights that he’s accomplished tremendous feats, and that nothing scares him, except for the threat of another Deepwater Horizon disaster happening somewhere else off our coasts. He goes on to talk about how the Congressional and Executive moratoria have helped protect America’s coastlines for nearly 30 years, and that “the tragic and devastating spill in the Gulf of Mexico is sickening proof that offshore oil drilling is not the answer.”

“We're all affected by offshore spills, from kids playing in the sand to people like Laird who define wave riding,” says Jim Moriarty, Surfrider Foundation’s CEO. “I love how this PSA illustrates the point that we should all be scared of man-made disasters of this magnitude, and that we should not stop until safeguards, like the moratorium, are back in place.”

"Our personal desire to preserve the environment, coupled with the saddening disaster in the Gulf, motivated WINDOWSEATpictures to help spread the message with Laird Hamilton and Surfrider Foundation,” says Moz Mirbaba, Executive Producer at WINDOWSEATpictures. “Our political leaders need to know that offshore drilling is Not The Answer and that it comes at a terrible cost to our wildlife and environment. Laird Hamilton is known as the guiding genius of crossover board sports, and he is truly amazing in the water. The waterman in the true sense of the word is famous for doing all kinds of extreme things in the ocean from making epic long distance journeys on his ocean-going paddleboard to creating the fast forward speed sailing loop, to pioneering tow-in surfing – a method still used today to surf some of the world’s biggest waves. As an activist and advocate for our oceans, waves and beaches, he supports education and outreach within the community to protect our waters for future generations to enjoy.

On Saturday, June 26, locals and visitors alike joined Hands Across The Sand and Surfrider Foundation at Surfrider Beach, Malibu, in protest against offshore drilling. At 12 noon, people joined hands for 15 minutes to convince our politicians to adopt policies that encourage clean and renewable energy.

Windowseat teamed up with Surfrider Foundation and Laird Hamilton to film "Not the Answer" PSA. This project is very near and dear to us. We are proud to have been involved with this noteworthy movement.

The Rob Machado Golfo Experience

The Rob Machado Golf Experience, benefiting the Cardiff Education Fund, helping kids gain a better understanding of their environment, took place on a very beautiful and sunny September Monday.

Happy to support our friend, Rob Machado, with this year’s South of the border themed fundraiser, we loaded the car (a Prius) with golf bags, piñatas, sombreros, and luche libre masks.

Upon arriving at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club, we were greeted with a delicious and filling acai bowl from Sambazon, Nixon goodie bags, and our very own golf cart. We (WINDOWSEATpictures) were actually given 4 carts. I guess they don’t like people hanging on the sides of the cart. Go figure….

The 30+ teams of 4 included Hurley, Dragon Alliance, WINDOWSEATpictures, INT Boards, Marko Foam, Pat’s Record Company, and Transworld Surf, amongst many others. The players commenced on their 18-holes of shenanigans with a putting contest for $10,000. Company-sponsored holes were given free reign in regards to decorations, food, and “bonus activity”…as long as it was consistent with the theme.

Players enjoyed massages and margaritas from SurferMag, dined on carne asada tacos at both Nixon and Rimmel, sushi from Zenbu, tequila shots with lovely ladies at New Era, and ice cream from Archies, courtesy of Kurtis Surf Goggles. Wahoos also delivered burritos to each player on the course. Along with the appetizing food, the players were entertained with various bonus games like tennis, short-club golf, tee-ball, black jack, soccer, and a fruit ‘throw’.

A Mariachi band serenaded our return to the club house, where we devoured a Mexican buffet-style dinner and bid on the silent and live auctions. The awards ceremony concluded the festive fundraiser.

Dragon’s Federale Stop on Hole #3 won the “best hole” award! I didn’t mind getting a ticket for being “too sober”, having my windows washed by unsavory characters, being offered something green in a bag for mere pesos, and witnessing a honcho in a poncho using the public bano. Our golf-cart was also stolen and our clubs were being sold back to us. It was absolutely hilarious!

While I was at the bar, Rob had announced that WINDOWSEATpictures won the entire tournament! WINDOWSEATpictures?! That’s our team!! I ran back to snap pics and congratulate the boys! Today was an AWESOME day!

Los Angeles, CA (August 1, 2009): WINDOWSEATpictures (El Segundo, CA) recently completed a viral video for the release of a new line of action-sports-focused fingersports at X Games 15.

WINDOWSEATpictures produced an entertaining viral video featuring a life-sized hand skateboarding in a private training facility pulling blunt fakies, blunt disaster, kick-flip back tail, and 50/50’s around the coping of a mini-ramp to showcase a skate-fingerboard line.

“We are very excited to be a part of the marketing force behind the launch of this new toy line debuting at X Games,” says Moz Mirbaba Executive Producer at WINDOWSEATpictures. “We validated our client's belief in our capabilities and insights to action sports by being able to present fingerboarding in a fun and unique way.”

The life-sized hand will be on site to demonstrate it's fingerboarding skills during X Games 15 (July 31-August 2) on the street skateboarding park at The Home Depot Center. Be sure to check out the hand dropping in on the Hubba Ledge, executing a 540 kick-turn or a maneuvering a kick-flip to fakie!

Scheduled times for the hand are 1:45pm on the Street Skate Course and also at 3pm in the X Fest area, Home Depot Center (Be sure to check upon arrival, times are subject to change) on Saturday, August 1st. An encore skate session is scheduled for Sunday, August 2nd at 1pm.

Our Work's Been Nabbed!

This week, techies and tech-companies unite in Sin City (Vegas) for the NAB Show. NAB, or the National Association of Broadcasters, has its last day today having ran from April 17-23.

Why are we talking about NAB? And just to clarify, no, it's not the NBA. Though some of us have basketball on the mind with the Laker playoffs- GO KOBE! We bring NAB to light because WINDOWSEATpictures has relationships with many of the top broadcast electronics manufactures for its operation. To stay current of the latest and greatest tech gadgets, WINDOWSEATpictures has formed strategic alliances with Panasonic, RED Cameras, Millimeter Magazine, Apple, and AJA systems.

On its home page, AJA just recently showcased WINDOWSEATpictures work on their NAB Show reel. We are very fortunate to have these partners. Without their technology we could not create the level of high quality content we insist on. Chaz destroys WINDOWSEAT ramp

Chaz Ortiz is at WINDOWSEATpictures' filming for an upcoming profile piece. Before we went to film the Dwindle rail he decided to use our ramp to warm up. Let it be stated, Chaz has reset the bar on our company mini-ramp with combos like a nollie-backside-big spin-switch-pivot-stall (in a later discussion Matt Devino WS editor said "that's sum video game trick dood").

Chaz is in LA getting clips with Nigel Alexander for what will be Chaz's first real street video part. Nigel is one of our collaborators and shoots P-Rod and the current crop of comp warriors when they hit the streets.

Every one is talking about Chaz , the 14 year old, who skates wise beyond his years. Last year he won the 2008 AST Dew Tour. Last week he Nabbed third at the Tampa Pro, behind Lutzka (1st) and P-Rod (2nd). Damn!

Search the net and you'll find him sharing the Gatorade athlete page with another Chi-Town legend Michael Jordan.

Ultimately this kid is one cool cat.

Wrappin' Up the 2008 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing

Much can happen in 44 days. For the competitors of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing 44 days may be all they need to solidify their names in surf history. WINDOWSEATpictures is there from day one capturing the intensity, heartbreak, and triumph that is the Triple Crown.

Spending such a jam-packed, uninterrupted amount of time together creates an immense sense of community amongst all those collected on the North Shore. Days are more than hanging out and catching good surf. For everyone on the North Shore, there is a job to be done this time of year. Surfers, event organizers, and media persons alike are up before dawn everyday to monitor the swells and confirm the days contests will run or not. The tenacious reputation of the 3 breaks on the North Shore (Haleiwa, Sunset, and Pipeline), makes this day at the office one that can either make or break the careers of these surfers.

It is also these same 44 days that give way to reckless abandon and easy living on non-contest days. On days such as these, WINDOWSEATpictures caught surfers taking advantage of great free surf at many of the local breaks, riding the much less temperamental faces of the Bonzai Skate Park, and even throwing themselves from planes miles above their normal surf spots.

This year's Vans Triple Crown was particularly inspiring with great surf at all 3 breaks. Whether watching Stephanie Gilmore win the women's Triple Crown and World Title, Joel Parkinson's history-making 2 perfect 10's in one Pipeline heat, or Kelly Slater proving he is still the top winning WCT surfer, no one would leave the North Shore this year disappointed with showmanship.

For last part of our "Girls that Shred" series we are featuring Stephanie Gilmore. Winner of the Women's Vans Triple Crown and the WCT World Title for 2008, Stephanie proves that even a rookie can make a splash. Stephanie has been competing in World Tour events since she was 17, and though that was just a couple years ago, she is already following in the footsteps of great female competitors such as Layne Beachley.

Girls that Shred: Part 4 - Vans Tahoe Cup

WINDOWSEATpictures visited several Air Force bases across the US when they produced the "Do Something Amazing" campaign. They watched tanks drop from planes, robots dismantle and blow up bombs, planes fuel mid-air and they bro'd down with the Thunderbirds.

This clip is of Thunderbirds' aerial photographer Staff Sgt. Kristi Machado. Okay, so technically she is not manning the controls, but we are pretty impressed that Staff Sgt. Machado is holding on to the camera and not to the side of the plane, for her life! But I guess that is why she's a Thunderbird.

The ProTec Pool Party at the Vans Skatepark is one of the best pool competitions of the year. Great skaters show off their mad skills on what is a very unforgiving and challenging bowl. The ladies get a chance to shine too. The women's division portion of the contest exemplifies the progress women's skateboarding has made in the last few years as top female athletes come together, and sometimes apart.
